Understanding Wonder

Descartes' definition of wonder is both concise and expansive when he said, "Wonder is a sudden surprise of the soul which makes it tend to consider attentively those objects which seem to it rare and extraordinary" (1649). As classical educators, leading our children to that wonder opens the pathway to the True, the Good, and the Beautiful, which in turn directs the heart to the ultimate wisdom found in God alone.

Encouraging Wonder

Unfortunately, in many classrooms today, answers have replaced questions, and apathy has replaced wonder. In a classical Christian school, teachers have an open door and a weighty responsibility to fight against this modern current. Leading to Wonder seeks to encourage and equip teachers to teach classically, to inspire awe, and to guide their students to wonder as they themselves are captivated by the joy of learning.

Inspiring Wonder

Leading to wonder cannot occur in a vacuum: in one classroom, with one teacher, or even within one school. The active inclusion of parents in the classical education of their children is not just a nicety; it is a genuine necessity. Rather than watching parents abdicate their role to a school, even to a good classical school, Leading to Wonder seeks to educate and inspire parents to actively partner in their classical community of learners.
